Love your story and grandpa Pete's! He was the type of immigrant this country welcomes, responsible, hard working, contributing, learned the language (a must be) and most important of all, respectful to the laws and therefore a "legal" immigrant! Love all my Swedish friends! We have several....
My story is similar, came here at 23, followed the law and became a legal citizen, worked, contributed, always respecting the flag and my new country and the opportunity to work and achieve.
I dread people who feel they don't have to learn or speak the language and we owe them everything. I have no empathy for that type.
I don't wish to support them with my tax dollars. I prefer that the money goes to education for the children and food and shelter for our veterans and families who lost their jobs but are trying to find new ones.
