[DeTomaso] fuel injection fuel pump in gas tank

Rich, I've been running a Ford electric F.I pump in my stock Pantera gas tank for about 7 years. I use it as a priming pump for a carb. It fits fine and adapting it wasn't much of a problem. There's a POCA Newsletter article on the install, with photos.  For carbs, use a Ford pump for a TYBI setup- those ran at 9-12 psi and can be regulated down to 5-7 psi for carbs. Note- EFI pumps run a 45-55 psi an cannot be regulated down for a carb; ther pumps overheat from the large restriction. And they look identical to a TBI pump so be careful what you ask for!
Cheers- J Deryke

Good point, I just assumed a Pantera.

Ken,
As much as your answer is a true statement regarding a Pantera tank I
kept my response more generic despite the lack of NPC in the title!
Maybe I read too much (or too little) into "working on one of my
cars",
if it had been me I'd have written "one of my Pantera's" if it were
such....

I would think that a deep tank like the Pantera tank is a lot less
susceptible to the inlet sucking air than most flat wide gas tanks?
Do
the folks at tanks know what a Pantera tank looks like? Can you
position the pump with the inlet very close to the floor?

Subject: [DeTomaso] fuel injection fuel pump in gas tank
I am working on one of my cars to install a fuel injection system.
I purchased a "tanks" electric fuel pump that mounts in the gas
tank.
The company tanks is concerned that I don't have a baffle in the
tank
and said they will not honor a warranty because they are afraid
that
the pump will burn up due to running dry while cornering.
Does anyone have experience with an electric pump in the tank?
should I worry about this?
Second question is I need to extend the electric lines in the tank
down
to the pump.
Do I need to get special wires that can handle the fuels or do the
std
plastic coated wires work without a problem?
Thanks Rich
