    > At 8 years old I got my first kart - made by “Bug”, the hot ticket in the 50’s - 60’s. It replaced the Singer Special - two years prior. It started off with 6”wheels and a single Clinton 2.5 hp. driving the left rear wheel. It took some time & evolution, but in a couple years it had a live axle, 3- McCulloch 10 hp chainsaw motors (Mac 10’s) - 13” aluminum wheels with slicks. Disc brakes and a pressurized “Moon” tank on the rear of the seat. From the tank, were 3 clear plastic tubes feeding the Tillotson Carbs. That kart ran 90 mph at a deserted runway at McClellan AFB in Sacramento. My father - Colonel - pilot - had his 1959 Porsche Carrera gt Speedster (a bit rare in itself) - right next to me - it looked so comfortable at the time. Synchronizing the 3 motors was a little touch - to the point that 2 Mac 10’s almost ran as fast - but never threw a chain, like the 3-motor setup.
    > The Christmas morning I got the kart, I also got my favorite candy - one pound of California Brittle from Sees and my first red/black Pendleton Shirt (Lumberjack). I was really STYLIN’ - drove through the neighborhood like I owned the road, chocolates between my legs, and the red Pendleton shirt a blazin’. On top of the friggin world. Well - I ran a stop sign in front of a cop, didn’t pay attention to a yield sign, and, when pulled over, I began vomiting up all that chocolate. He lead me home covered in vomit to a harsh treatment with a motorcycle belt to the butt by my mother, while my dad dealt with the CHP.All OK - Flyin' high in April - Shot down in May. All in 30 minutes. But lived to tell about it.
