[DeTomaso] Lithium Jump Start Gizmo is this Real???

I've used lithium polymer batteries in my R/C planes for about 10 years. Power to weight wise they have a tremendous advantage over types of batteries.

As with any new type of application (these were originally developed for use in laptop computer) there is a learning curve.
(1) Safety .... as they can spontaneously combust if mishandled and the fire that can result is very difficult to extinguish + the fumes are awful and probably toxic as well.
Mishandling can be shorting out (such as can be the case when crashing an R/C airplane ....... I've seen them crash and burst into flames before the operator can
get to and retrieve the plane).
(2) The other main concern with mishandling is recharging them. The current crop of lithium polymer battery chargers have excellent safety features to shut down the
battery charging if something goes wrong, but there have been houses and garages burned because people left their lithium polymer batteries charging and unattended.
I'm sure you have all read or heard of a defective cell phone battery melting the plastic, exploding, burning etc. Those are tiny batteries .... the ones discussed here are much
bigger and more powerful ......so consider the consequences should something similar occur with one of them.

I think these new small, lightweight jump start products are an excellent idea ..... and I will likely have one to replace the bulky and heavy one I have now. Just remember
to give some thought to where and how you store it in your car or elsewhere (to keep it from being able to shorting out). And -------------------NEVER ------------------------
(I don't care how sophisticated the new chargers are) leave one charging unattended.

My 2C

I use lithium polymer batteries in my RC planes and they are amazingly powerful for their weight.

These things have been around for a while now and are probably real and reliable.

2 years ago you could go over to Advance Auto and buy a lithium "full
   size" battery for normal installation..
One of my customers took about 6 of them back before giving up.
Then they disappeared - not surprising, but they may well be back.

Full disclosure - it was a drag camaro with a 496 inch big block and
   11.2 compression.
Maybe not the easiest crank in the world.

They seem to claim that a pretty small lithium battery can jump start a
car? Are they just good for a small engine that starts immediately?
If they are real, why can't you put several in parallel for extra
cranking, and use them as your car battery?
This one claims up to 20 starts and up to a 6 liter gas engine:
