[DeTomaso] DeTomaso Digest, Vol 162, Issue 18 ZF GEAR OIL

Re ZF Gear oil

There exists some conflicting information on ZF transaxle oil. The DT owners
manual specifies EP90 whereas the ZF manual specifies EP80. An on-line
technical tips publication from Pantera Parts Connection went some way
giving explanation of the various oil types and applications and is
worthwhile background information.

I have run Castrol EP90 for 27 years without issue, I have recently done a
change oil refilling with same. The Castrol range of oils EP80/90 in GL4 and
GL5 Derivatives are readily available on-line from www.demon-tweeks.co.uk.

I am advised by our UK ZF Transaxle specialist rebuilder alongside the use
of EP90, alternatives are Castrol hypo LS or Millers CRX LS 75/140 which
have good "clinging" capabilities to ensure the gears when not in use remain
well coated, and are just as good equally suited for the diff and synchro's.

I guess best tip is to frequently change the oil. I usually do so each year
regardless of use.

Hope this helps
Regards
Colin Bradshaw UK

Terry, I have no desire to be that close to them.
I just want them to know, some of us know the truth, and we are sharing it
with all.
Making a non democratic decision of where the rally will be is one thing;
lying about the reasons for that selection, is not acceptable.
Just say ? we selected Vegas cause that?s what we wanted to do and the hell
with the survey, that was just to appease you and make you feel your opinion
matters?.
Done!

Well, I?m sure it?s all about the kickbacks, right? I normal for the
organizers to get kickbacks for bringing
lots of people to a property or venue. And that is Ok! After all, they are
volunteer?s and should get some compensation
for all their hard work. So, my guess is (and that is all it is), that the
riff is someone(s) getting greedy. Just a
guess, and maybe I?m being cynical. HaHa ;-))

Entertaining anyway. ;-)

despite all of my efforts to go forward with Monterey. I was elected by the
POCA board to be the Fun Rally Committee and as such it was evident to me
that Las Vegas would not be a viable option. Despite my disagreement with
ever going back to Las Vegas plans were being made without my involvement
what so ever. In addition, Monterey was being looked at by John Tomlin of
PCNC without my involvement, I also found this out after the fact. It became
clear that I was not wanted as the Fun Rally Committee and my opinions did
not matter any longer. This is why 1 month ago I stepped down from as Fun
Rally Committee Chairman.

Monterey was the number 1 choice. The excuses that the SCCA could not give
us the track event in writing is hog wash, the SCCA event has been held that
same weekend for the last 5 years and my contact at SCCA told me last July
that it would be the same weekend in 2018. I told the board this
information. Monterey kept getting put off so we lost the big ballroom at
the Hyatt, but the hotel gave me an alternate that could have worked, I
actually drove up to Monterey 6 weeks ago and had a look. So I was ready to
go and things were stalled as Vegas was being planned.

I totally agree Ed. Now if the organizer gets a free room for booking a
huge event, that is ok, it is normal in the hotel industry where I worked
for 20 years. I have no problem with what is given out as a booking bonus.
I also agree with the gratitude and enjoyment of your friends was the best
gift you could have asked for! I heard the best comments from everyone who
attended. Kudos to you!

All who attended know how actually beautiful the Monterey event was and how
excellent, the Hyatt Regency. Also, if, as you say, Monterey was a much

Guys,

Larry Finch turned me onto this today.

Look at this on eBay
DeTomaso Pantera Steering Wheel unique very rare

Many people don?t know that these Ferraro wheels were ONLY used on the 150
USA-model GTS Panteras. If you own one of them and your car was
unfortunately fitted with some aftermarket wheel, here is your chance to
rectify the problem.

You will likely never see another one available, so don?t bitch about the
price!

How did it get to a steering wheel shop in Germany I wonder?

Mike

I?m working on this Ed! Need to get George B on board as well.
I?m having major demolition work going on in my building that Saturday, in
preparation of the elevator installation. I will see if I can get someone
else to fill in for me for the second part of the day.
Anyone turning 70, it?s not to be missed!
We want to see your bachelor pad Ed, to make sure it?s what a bachelor bad
looks like!
I have seen the 3-car garage already!

All,

NPC but truly car-guy related.

I have stumbled across a small, waaaay out of the way vehicle storage yard
that is basically fully stocked with collectable cars (100 or so???) placed
there by hopeful ?.."I?m going to get to that soon?? owners.

Not wrecks, not rust buckets, most with all glass still intact and many
tires still holding air. These are neat, collectible cars that could find a
good home. But not if they remain sitting in that yard.

I have a car of my own there and am getting to know the owner who tells me
many of the cars have BIG unpaid bills and he can likely take title but he
has no driving intent to do so in the near future.

So, they sit safe and secure, and unknown to most. Slowing wasting away???.

I?m toying with seeing if I can work something with the yard owner where he
would allow me to to handle the collection/lien/take possession process on
some of the better, more collectible cars, at my time and expense.

Of course, prior to that action, I will have established what my purchase
price will be when the title transfers to the yard owner. ;-)

A couple of the cars do appeal to me enough to consider keeping with perhaps
just minimal restoration, but most just need someone else to bring them back
to life. I can be the middle man.

But first they have to be made available.

SO?..

I imagine the yard owner needs proof of the payments being in arrears, he
has to make good faith effort(s) to notify vehicle owner of unpaid charges -
perhaps multiple attempts over a set period of time?,
perhaps publish a legal announcement somewhere ?, file documents with
DMV?.. and who knows what else.

Does any member of this email list have knowledge of just how, here in
California, the yard owner needs to proceed to take title of a vehicle for
unpaid storage fees?

Please contact me off list with your wisdom or URL links, or call me at the
?..3497 number listed in the POCA roster.

Or post to the list so we can all learn something.

Thanks,

Larry

Guys,

Like the sign says....

A friend has a rheostat missing the chrome bezel. Two-pod dash cars use one
rheostat with a chrome bezel, while one pod cars use two of them, with a
black bezel on the hidden one under the dash.

I have a compete under-dash unit with black bezel, but no chrome bezel. If
you have one to offer up please let me know!

David,

Your car can be fixed. BUT we can not replace a Vintage Grouchy & Dirty man
like yourself. Stay safe and healthy in the clean, fresh, but thin, mountain
air.

Friends are like Angels, You don't have to see them to know they are
there...

Your friend,

Larry (just dirty) - Cleveland

Dear Friends,

Long known as "Grouchy & Dirty", it takes some tragedy to remind me of who
my friends really are.

Suffering from low O2 (I have been told) I fell asleep driving the Pantera
home from a paint match appt. Through a fence, through the cedar forest,
downed a sign, through a cable fence (amazing I wasn't decapitated!),
through the air over a driveway and parked in a tree. What we call . . .
the Finch?

After: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ljw43T0mI_8

Insurance says car is totaled, Jim D. says it can be fixed. Options: part it
out or fix or sell as a project?

Other than some pulmonary issues, that is all the news.

Be safe, STAY AWAKE, have fun.

All the best?

Dave,

The owners manual specifies the use of 80-weight GL-5 oil. I use
CRC/Stalube. You need to use 7 pints and I buy it in a 1-gallon (8 pint) jug
at NAPA auto parts....
