[DeTomaso] SN5533 scored some points

All,

So I woke up to a nice surprise this morning -- SN5533 took third in the
points championship in our first teething/shakedown season with the Oregon
SCCA Vintage Groups.

The good news is that, by the end of the year, in true FIA Gr3 trim
(headliner, lights, power windows, both seats, stock brake calipers, DOT
tires etc) we were running 1:29's at Portland with the kink. I am still
learning the car and the track, and I am pretty sure with some more track
time, weight loss (me AND the car), and finally turning to car setup,
SN5533 could be turning laps in the 1:27's. Those times at PIR should
translate to fairly competitive times at other tracks, and I really don't
think Portland is a great track for this car in its overweight state.
Anyway --we still have a few seconds to knock off and a list of
improvements before we venture out to the bigger events. But, we are making
progress...and I love the car.

Our current plans for SN5533 are to attack a list of items this winter:
tear down/magna-flux and reassemble, weight reduction (including window
motors delete), exhaust/muffler improvement, cooling issues (as always),
wiring (needs to be redone), endurance lighting, handling/set-up and
cosmetics. We are also planning to rebuild/blueprint/balance the original
motor that came with car (to the '72 FIA Specs). That FIA motor won't get
used anywhere but the snooty events.

We also need to start gathering spares -- which can be mostly stock.
Specifically, we are looking to accumulate backup components for the
steering, suspension (arms and uprights), brakes and rear axles etc. We
aren't looking for new - we just need it serviceable. We will R&R for
racing spares, wrap them, and put them in the trailer. If any of you have
any of that "stuff" hanging around your garage, and are wanting to part
with it for the cause - please PM me.

As for 2017, the Portland season is over, and we re likely done . For
2018, we will start next spring again at Portland, with the hope of getting
our HSR Gold Medallion status before the Rose Cup in the summer. Then we
will bring the car down to our race shop in Phoenix with goal of making
some of the bigger fall/winter HSR events.

Thanks for the constant advice from the forum - especially Mike Drew and
Asa Jay. It was also nice to see Stephen Nelson again at PIR (and to meet
his wife) - thanks for coming.

Regards,

Steven G. Lisa, Esq.
