I always did it the way Chuck first described what he thought was correct, suspension loaded, gently tighten.

Dear Richard and Charlie,

Ah-hah! That sounds correct. A little voice told me
to check and despite having done it multiple times, the memory became fuzzy. Thanks very much.

                             Warmest regards, Chuck Engles

Dr. Chuck -  Someone who actually knows what they are talking about
will hopefully chime in, but I thought that the procedure was the
opposite. You needed to jack the car up to remove the weight from the
suspension and tighten the lock. But I don't have such a fancy system so
I've never done it myself - it's just what I think I remember.

   Dear Forum,

After almost two years on the engine project, I am about
ready for the Pantera's tires to touch the ground again.  IIRC, the
proper tension on the engine brace bar(s) is done by loosening the
brace bar and then lowering the Pantera onto the ground.  Then with
the
suspension loaded, the brace bar(s) are tightened down.  The brace
bar(s) with the central adjusting tension nut are made gently snug.
   Then you're done.

              Is that correct?

                   Just checking,  Chuck Engles

PS:  Bar(s) means exactly the big square steel brace with the central
adjusting nut plus an accessory smaller brace mounted lower and
behind
   the normal brace, just over the top of the ZF.  {full disclosure}
