[DeTomaso] Innovative Pantera storage space

The GR-4 racers did not use a trunk insert. The huge (mandatory) spare tire/wheel was bolted to a flat plate directly on the ZF. The ZF cases will get to 180F or so during long, spirited drives. I suggest cutting a piece of plywood sheet, bungeeing it to the ZF and placing anything else you want to carry on the plywood with more straps. The wood will somewhat insulate your stuff but bungees will lose their elasticity in a week or two, so figure on throwing them away after your trip. And since I dropped my battery down in a hole cut in the front trunk ala the late models, there's also some storage space in front for us. I would certainly bring the trunk insert along for convenience.
Good luck- J Deryke

Rob -
I've tried that many moons ago, stuffing clothes into a plastic garbage bag, down in the recess between the rear quarter window and deck shock. Other than the bag melting a bit up by the shock (it peeled up pretty easily), my laundry survived A-OK. A tool roll should be okay, but you might want to wrap it in a couple of towels, adding girth (so it'll wedge into the space) and padding against the metal and glass.
