True Chuck yet it was only rain water after a normal summer, low rivers, so no salt intrusion.
I heard stories, more than once, of people opening their front and back doors so the clear water could quickly flow through the house.
Sunday before Concorso, I was in the flood waters after the rain sealing up my girlfriends home and it was almost clear. With 22." plus falling in two days and 16" of those in 15 hours allowed most of the water to be just clear runoff.
Pretty weird to walk down a subdivision two lane road or sidewalk Sunday at 7:30 pm in beginning starlight in groin deep water while hitting the ground with a forward held golf club to feel for holes in front of me while water is passing you by at about 12mph carrying trash cans, yard toys and small wooden chairs.
Besides rushing water sounds, white noise, you hear loud v8 airboats going full boar down the interstate and the four lane that I was walking to, while army choppers while flying around picking up people from homes with water up to their roofs. And I was in a good area with only 2' to 5' of water over the roads or in homes. Twice did large Army 6 wheel transports idled past me and asked if I needed a ride. No thanks, "I want to truly experience this unbelievable moment".
It felt like an end of the world movie, no people seen till I got to the highway which was covered with thousands of people-airboats- Coonass flotiala-hundreds of bass boats going to get people and 4wheelers all heading to high ground which was I-12 overpass, no phone services, could not flush toilets as sewer was flooded, city was ordering electricity to be shut off so people would not get electrocuted and refrigerator/freezers compressors would not cause a fire when submerged.
I then got in my truck, while the police opened the I-12 west bound lanes, and drove back to work and home which were all dry at 36' above sea level and the flooded area had water up to 45' above sealevel.
ALL people I saw, helped, drove past, walked past were in fantastic spirits!
Never was I more proud to be from this city with so many helping so many, regardless of the damned media.
I had tried to keep out of the water because of my medical condition and truly felt like I was deserting my city friends when I flew to dust bubble dry Monterey two days later.
I saw a large tattooed white neo-nazi looking skinhead redneck and a black panther dressed black man wearing a black lives matter teeshirt happily working together picking up an old white lady while in her wheelchair to an army truck so she could be driven out of the water.
And this is the racially unjust and unrest city where blacks and whites where shooting each other.
Not what I saw. The media lies and exaggerates so much!
Alton Stewart was shot by a policeman, looks like it should not have happened.
The four police where shot and killed by an out of town bastard, who came to kill.
I have met too many angry radicals with bad attitudes from out of state with car problems.
Here to stir up stuff and we sent politely sent them to another shop.
On two of my mechanics homes, sheetrock has been floated/painted, new cabinets put in and flooring has been laid as off last week. FEMA called me twice two Sundays ago, to ask questions about cars that we tried to fix and had towed out, not a bright bulb in the large Fema box, but generous. The area most have sold 50,000 moister meters.
So the Pantera has been washed out clean.
Sorry for a long story. Off to work with 37 cars waiting, yipes.
My 2¢.
