[DeTomaso] carbon fiber doors

How much does a steel decklid weigh? Going by memory, but I thought 70
pounds or so? It's pretty darn heavy, as can be verified if you disconnect
the decklid shocks. A reduction from 70 to 20 pounds going from steel to
fiberglass is pretty significant.

I forget what a real CF decklid weighs, but not much. But you are well into
diminishing returns I think, going from fiberglass to CF

A A True carbon fiber, as used by race car teams and OEMs is a
     very, very
A A expensive process. Many of the 'carbon fiber' Pantera parts
     I've seen
A A were simply fiberglass with a layer of carbon fiber cloth on
     top to
A A give it that CF look.
A A The tooling and production costs to make true CF Pantera parts
     properly
A A (using an autoclave) would result in $25,000 decklids. It ain't
     gonna
     A A happen.
A A If you want light weight parts, fiberglass is an option....
