[DeTomaso] FW: Harbor Fright Engine Support Bar

I have done this numerous times on early cars, never have I removed the decklid, loosened the mufflers or drained any coolant.


On the 9000 series the chassis side ZF mounting ears are removable, which makes it even easier.

You also need to drain some of the cooling as tilting the engine forward requires disconnecting the upper pressure tank hose.
Other than that, it's:
- Remove the deck lid
- Remove and set aside the clutch slave
- Remove the starter
- Disconnect the shift linkage and half-shafts
- Remove the two bolts holding the bottom of the rear engine cover to the bell housing
- Disconnect the headers from the exhaust pipes (to allow the engine to tilt)
- Disconnect the speedo cable
- Disconnect the ground connection at the back of the ZF
- Disconnect the backup light switch from the shifter box

If all OEM bolts are installed one has to pull the bell housing which means removing the starter also. IIRC
 Bud #3400 ( Drive it like there is no tomorrow -- for there may not be ! )

  into place.
