[DeTomaso] Sucking power of a Holly electric fuel pump?

Biggest problem in sucking gas from a Pantera tank is the 21" lift from tank bottom to begin with. Sure- once a flow is established, the natural siphon helps but the initial lift is substantial in all but a full tank. Thats a tall gas tank! Note that all electric pumps both in-tank and external have a fusible link built-in for safety. Exceed the undefined amperage going thru that thin little wire and the fusible link opens resulting in an inoperative, unrepairable pump. Even in an external pump, gas surrounds the field windings etc apparently for cooling.
I once used a Holley 'Super-pump' I got at a swap meet as an aquarium circulator. It lasted one week, then the fusible link burned up. I suddenly realized the pumps were not designed for continuous light duty use, either. FWIW- J Deryke

I don't post much but I have a Holly electric on my "P" car and the
issue is sucking not pushing. I mounted mine low on the firewall. It is
close to the gas tank and it pushes the gas about 50 inches to the
Dominator on top of my Cleveland. Have not had any issues with it for
the past 7 or 8 years. Hope this helps.

I'm convinced that you can and if not, just fill up the tank with new
gas and you'll only have to pull a few inches.

What's the sucking power of an Electric fuel pump ?
Do you think I can pull 29 inches with a Holley Electric Fuel Pump ?
I'm just wondering if I drain all my gas out of the tank with the
electric
fuel pump... and then add new gas... if I am going to be SOL ... and
have
to re-prime the fuel lines?
I don't think so... but then again.. I have no idea. Anyone have
experience with priming the gas?
Thank in advance.
