With all the hoopla on distributor gears over the years I would look at that
first. It would be odd for it to make a knocking sound...but then.

 I just had a new MSD 8477 distributor installed. The car starts and idles
so much better. BUT after sitting and idling for about 20 minutes I now have
a very noticable knock. It sounds to be in the front of the engine and down
low.
Is there anything that could have been done wrong when installing the
distributor that would cause a knock? I never had this before.
