[DeTomaso] Door Trim Removal

It looks like I’ll have to remove the glass to get at the back side of the outside whiskers, unless
there’s a better idea out there. It seems I’ve forgotten more than I realized. On the plus side, the
deeper I get into this car, I keep getting surprised at how rust free and clean this car is. The inside
of the doors were freaky clean for a car that’s never been restored.
When I mounted the outside whiskers on 3644 I used automotive
double sided tape to eliminate the screw problems. That worked very well.

Michael , From the factory , the the lower trim piece that runs the length of the door is secured (as you mentioned ) by very tiny single slot wood type screws that are buried in the outside facing window whiskers . A problem that can arise is that if the screws are not recessed enough , the window can get scratched while rolling up and down . I have heard that there are alternative mounting solutions that eliminate this downside . - Jim

Subject: [DeTomaso] Door Trim Removal
I’m beginning to remove trim from 6643 and prepping for paint. I’ve removed the outside chrome/stainless
strip at the top of the door/bottom of the glass years ago but don’t remember any particulars. It’s the one
that runs the length of the door. I recall that it’s a press fit and just clamps to the door metal but can’t remember
if it’s actually secured in any way… like through the window whiskers. It’s never been removed before and is
very tight right now.
Thanks for any help!
Michael
