[DeTomaso] DeTomaso Digest, Vol 144, Issue 27

Hey Owen
You have received plenty of great advice on this issue. I just wanted to add a couple things:

~~Imho....not cut the hood. I have never seen a Pantera that WOULD cool itself with the hood open but NOT with the hood closed.
~~Also, an upgrade to modern day fans is a must. That technology just wasn't available in the early seventies.
~~Which ever fans you use, have a dedicated power source for those fans with healthy size wiring. Compare your fan power as wired now with the same fans but with a large wire directly from the battery. You might notice a sizable increase in blade speed
~~And lastly, NEVER use the auxiliary fan switch on the console. Wire both fans to operate with temperature switches. A manual switch for your radiator fan is as silly as using a manual switch for your oil pump.

 Guys  i need advice please

 I have a nice original 1972 pre L pantera

i have some cooling problems in traffic  even though i
 am in Ireland and
 its never very hot here

rad and fans are original. with no vents in front hood
i notice that the hood got extremely hot and i got some
 boiling over
the fans were working but they are the originals and not
 very powerful

i am considering putting vents in the hood and fitting a new
 rad and
fans kit assembly (PPC Fluidyne rad ) from pantera parts
this the one with puller fans  but i want to keep it
 upright

 does this plan make sense
i dont need a massive improvement in cooling - i only had
 this slight
boiling over in the swirl tank once
also i fitted a new temp sender on the engine front
 and it read about
160 degrees  until now its reading 230 degress all the
 time with only
veery small vasriation in reading  even when engine is
 cold
any quick ideas on why it would suddenly go wrong ?
 i would appreciate advice

 best regards  owen cooke
