Well, that can be argued, but I did get it fully welded and buttoned up. Will Kooiman showed me a different technique than I was using. The metal in the Pantera is not known for its ‘fortitude’ and I had a hell of a time getting my MIG to weld it nicely. I need to get a TIG and practice more. Regardless, it is welded up and I have no qualms about it coming loose or causing havoc.

This is very true. The roll cage is actually welded into the firewall, so I don’t think there’s an issue.
Why did I do it this way?
Well… as Dylan explained in the article, we did argue the point for awhile. Well, maybe you could call it a very loud discussion?
Cutting the sheet metal of the body was NOT an option. After all, lots of $$$ had been spent on getting that very nice paint job on the car.
So, the last resort was what we went with. I took a angle grinder with a cutting disc and went after it.
It all worked out well, but I hope I am not around the day the fuel tank has a leak.

The tank was cleaned, painted and ‘sloshed’, so I don’t think there’s a problem in my lifetime or Dylan’s.
