If the electric fuel pump is inside the tank one assumes it got in there through the hole where the fuel pickup/sender is located on the top of the tank? That being the case then it should be removable via that same hole and hence with the tank in the car. The fuel sender/pickup (and your electric pump) can be accessed by removing the rear quarter window and working through the opening.

I might use the "Schrader approach". I hate those designs, especially the
one in my '92 convertible Firebird.
Simple failure: car sat for 1 year, electric fuel pump died. Of course, it
is inside the tank, in order to replace it one must drop the tank, which
means dropping/cutting the exhaust and dropping a bit the differential.
Soviet military approach will be used like on the case of the other
Firebirds affected by this problem (87, 88, 90): cut foldable access hole
in the trunk, cut metal fuel lines and splice them with fuel hoses so that
the fuel pump can be replaced within half an hour on subsequent future
failures (since Chinese components are SOOO good). Supposedly this approach
is used in Toyota's (designed properly from the beginning and not to rip
off the customer in the long run). But then I do not like Jap cars because
of the shape and political reasons...
Hmmm. How difficult is to cut the firewall and how does one reinforce it
back in order to protect from a potential future explosion ? Does anyone
make a different gas tank that has a shape that allows removal without
engine removal first ?
