So if this idea is more than just a power grab, and the goal is to make something better,

What could POCA do to make the De Tomaso Registry better ? (I will repeat only 2 that have been suggested before.):

1) POCA could put a page or link on their website that points to the De Tomaso Registry. (www.DeTomasoRegistry.org
<http://www.detomasoregistry.org/> )

(I could create a separate POCA-member only login if preferred.)

Poof ! They would now have connected to the registry, with no additional cost (win) or significant effort on their part (win), and
no further delay (win).

(Can you say Win-win-win ?)

2) POCA could occasionally advertise the registry in their publications (and on their website).

They did this before with other registry efforts, so there is "precedent" if some newer board member

or forgetful older board member takes issue.

POCA included a full-page flyer for Bill Van Ess's registry work. Go look at your old newsletters back into the 1990's.

The page was something owners could fill-out and mail in. I know, as a new owner I sent in my data.

That data went directly to Bill Van Ess. POCA does not even have a copy today, as I understand it.

Did POCA control or own the Bill Van Ess registry ? No. Bill Van Ess did (does).

Bill Van Ess produced a "velo-bound" paper book, as a compilation of the submissions, and sold copies.

Did any money flow back to POCA from gross sales or net profit ? I bet not.

I suspect Bill Van Ess NEVER made a dime, and neither did POCA. These things don't even cover expenses, let alone labor!

Then Bill Milburn "took over" (to what extent I do not know) from Bill Van Ess. POCA then advertised the registry for Bill Milburn

(repeatedly, and at no cost). I sent in my data again. Did POCA own or control Bill Milburn's work? No.

So why did POCA use this method before, and more than once? Because it was determined that it was the practical and best solution.

It probably is still the best course of action.

If POCA felt that marketing the registry with some fresh words like, The De Tomaso Registry is "endorsed" by POCA

or "is sponsored by POCA", or "is partially supported by POCA", or the official POCA registry.,

well you marketing types know what I mean, we could do something like that.

Exact details would need to be worked out, naturally.

Does recognition, endorsement, and such really add any value or cache?

Does it drive new people to participate? Sorry but it seems a bit like "puffery" to me, with little tangible benefit.

But I will grant some people might see otherwise. How could you even quantify this?

This whole topic could just be "pie-in-the-sky", or dreamful thoughts, so to "ground" the idea, we should review "the numbers", and
see

if all this "hub bub" is even SIGNIFICANT enough to discuss (yet again).

So,

Maybe next some number to put things in proportion.

Best Regards,
