[DeTomaso] DeTomaso Digest, Vol 140, Issue 29

Owen,

One thing I do is to remove the spark plug wire on one cylinder at a time to
see if the noise changes. This will identify rod or piston noise more then a
lifter. But it is an EZ starting point.

By removing the valve cover you will see the extra clearance/play in the
rocker if that is what is making the noise.

Guys

help please with hydraulic lifters

I have a 1972 std pantera its got 4 dot heads and alum intake
manifold and 4 bolt mains
i rolled it over for 2 months while rust proffing it with engine still
in it
now its finished and back on road but a rattle from one head seems to
be a lifter and it is somtimes intermittent but quite loud
what advice can you give me - i never saw a hydraulic lifter as we
have all overhead cams or for old stuff all are solid lifters
how should i go about checking the exact source of the noise and
assuming it is one hydraulic lifter what do i do to repair it ??

your advice would be much appreciated
