[DeTomaso] GT 40 MK II anyone?

Scott,

Cool car--but those aren't Gulf colors. It's painted to copy the 1966 Le Mans entry of Denny Holme and Ken Miles, which famously crossed the finish line first (they slowed WAY down to let the 2nd and 3rd place GT40s catch up). In a terrible Gaullic twist, the French officials decided to award the win to the 2nd place car because it had started 20-30 feet further back--the greatest ripoff in racing history.

Loads of people have copies of the black No. 2 car that was awarded the win--I'm glad to see somebody is paying tribute to the undisputed REAL winners of the race!

Do a Google search to see images of the real car, and a more in-depth telling of the story.

Oh, and I loved your description of driving it too. I've been fortunate to ride in or drive four different Superformance GT40s. The slow one was super fast, and the fastest one (Mike Trusty's) was borderline undriveable!

Paul let me drive it on a run back in September, and I can attest that it's as fast, raucous and uncomfortable as the Real Deal, and an absolute mega-blast to drive. Make no mistake, it's a race car with the bare essentials (such as AC) for the street. It's also a sure cure for erectile dysfunction - just slam the loud pedal home and listen to the wail through the bundle of snakes megaphones!
