Thanks all for the follow-up.  Now this nugget:
"And retuning the suspension so it was a safer handling car"
I'm not aware of any changes to springs, shocks, anti-roll bars from 71 to 74, did anything change ?

  Over on Facebook "Motorology" someone is claiming the L bumper in front
  stopped a wind noise / buffeting issue.
  Sounds like malarkey to me, but I don't have pre-L to make a comparison
  to.
  Was this ever a thing ?
