I've not done A/C since my days in
Automotive Technology school.  But
as I recall, the "goal" was to have 45F
degrees at the vents.
38F at the vents sounds pretty darn good
to me.  :)
Can you come and do mine?

   Jeff,
I hooked up the high pressure side gauge
and get these numbers:
before starting car, 100 psi both sides
after system settles down, at 1500 rpm,
low side 7 psi, high side 225
psi.  As the car warmed the engine
speed increased to maybe 1750 rpm
and the high side was creeping up to
240-250 but the low was staying at
   5-7.
Ambient temp was 77F, so should be about
40-45 low side, 170 high side.
According to the info sheet, this "Hi side
too high, low side too low"
   situation would imply "blockage of
expansion valve or orifice tube."
Would that be from having the R12 valve in
a system now using 134?
I used my laser thermometer on the vents
and got 20-40F, but I suspect
that kind of thermometer is not accurate
for this application because
on my street car I got like 13F, which I
think cannot be right.
Anyway, it seems to me if I add more 134 I
run the risk of blowing the
high side hose at 3000 rpm and 85F
temp.  Does that sound right?
I do have 15 12 oz cans of old school R12
I bought way back when, so I
could switch to R12, but I would have to
take the car to have the 134
recycled, replace the dryer, put the
system under vacuum, etc so would
   like not to.
   Thank you,
   Jim

AC that has been retrofitted

   Jim,
All cars use different  pressures and
for examples this week we did a/c
work on a 124 Fiat, many
Benz-Bmws-Toyotas, a 71 e-type, Ford +Chevy
trucks, a Cobra kit car and a Mangusta.
But basic pressures at 1,500 rpm with
cooling fans on and on high, with
both windows open, rear and front hatch
closed, high fan and not on
recirc should be about 35 + - low side and
250 + - high. Seems like a
7:1 ratio works the best. Converted
systems do need different numbers
but never too much of a change. So your
low range should vary from 20
to 38 psi and the high 210 to 260 psi as
long as above written
parameters are meet. The proper pressures
will equate to the coolest
temps. You have to note that and remember
you are just setting the vent
output for the coolest temp not some
pre-considered ideal temp you hope
   for.
About 30 % of all of our a/c fixes are
fixing the stuck on heaters. We
are in hot Louisiana, make sure your
heater is truly shut off by doing
   a liquid test.
Do use the correct oil and add 2 oz if you
are not sure of how much is
in. You can always expel the working high
side into a cloth or jug for
2 seconds to get an idea if you are oily
enough. A lot of spit
indicates fine but dry expelled gas needs
oil.

The sight glass is always used as a
reference point. You must go by the
   dual gauges.
Never by the low side only.

A very original Maserati Khamsin Ebay listing sent out by
Masertisource.
Very original, but definitely not flawless.  Pretty
car, except for the
butt-ugly US bumpers.  The front looks like it's
choking on a hockey puck,
the back is just a visual mess between the PANTERA tail
lights, and the
rubber transom of a bumper.  It is the perfect color
though.

I went to go inspect the car today. It was next door in the
detailing shop.
The sales guy, John Zuberek, could not gain access since
they were closed.
He reminded me of Tom Cruise in Risky Business, dealing
Lambos!
So he is going to email me when it's done and I can go back
for a look next
week.
He also said they have an interested buyer(don't they
all?),which may
explain the detailing.
They must have 20 Lamborghini's just that I could see and
some other
speciality cars too.
Millions of dollars worth of cars. I felt like I walked into
a bank vault.
I felt a little out of my comfort zone but we talked and he
filled me in on
the different Lambo models and car stuff in general. They
sell between 15-30
cars a month and cater to Lambo buyers primarily. They claim
to be one of
the biggest Lambo dealers around.
He said the owner, Roy Cats, has a special place in his
heart for Panteras
though.
He indicated Roy had recently found another car he's
purchasing soon. Stay
tuned.
John also said they feel the market is surging for Panteras
right now. Duh!
But in the same breath he added "it's like the stock market
,who knows?".

They did have a car I would take over all the rest though, a
2006 Ford GT
in Gulf livery.
So I took a few pics for you. I haven't tried attaching pics
yet so please
let me know PM if they don't show up and I'll find another
way to post.
Let you know what I find out about the Pantera later this
week.

Dear Asa,

           I do know that
Larry Stock's high speed aero mods seem to include
a belly pan when I reviewed the double secret pictures he
kindly sent me.
Perhaps Larry might comment.

Yes, and somebody found it and returned it.  If I
recall correctly, he lost
his deck lid due to a hinge pin that came out.  After
that, most of us
drilled our pins for clips or safety wire.  Here is an
example from mine
when I drilled for cotter pins:
http://teampanteraracing.com/index.php?option=com_g2bridge&view=gallery&Item
id=57&g2_itemId=5517

This should prevent losing the deck lid entirely as long as
the hinges stay
intact.  However, it might be a good idea, like what
Dan was eluding to, to
have some kind of back-up in place like a thick bungee cord
under the deck
lid in case it unlatches.  Make it short enough that
the deck-lid doesn't
come up any more than a few inches.

Didn't somebody try a belly-pan under the rear of car at one
time?  I
thought I remember somebody trying that but don't remember
any conclusions.

The Ford GT is a truly great car, but for that price you
could have your choice of a MK1 replica built to your specs
and still have change for one of the Lamborghini's!

That original window sticker is a bit misleading, the MSRP
for a 2006 Ford GT was $149,995, so i'm guessing the
$184,995 represents the original selling dealer markup. Yes,
I wish I'd purchased one back then, if I had it would for
sure have more than 2,900 miles on it though!

I went to go inspect the car today. It was next door in the
detailing shop.
The sales guy, John Zuberek, could not gain access since
they were closed.
He reminded me of Tom Cruise in Risky Business, dealing
Lambos!
So he is going to email me when it's done and I can go back
for a look next
week.
He also said they have an interested buyer(don't they
all?),which may
explain the detailing.
They must have 20 Lamborghini's just that I could see and
some other
speciality cars too.
Millions of dollars worth of cars. I felt like I walked into
a bank vault.
I felt a little out of my comfort zone but we talked and he
filled me in on
the different Lambo models and car stuff in general. They
sell between 15-30
cars a month and cater to Lambo buyers primarily. They claim
to be one of
the biggest Lambo dealers around.
He said the owner, Roy Cats, has a special place in his
heart for Panteras
though.
He indicated Roy had recently found another car he's
purchasing soon. Stay
tuned.
John also said they feel the market is surging for Panteras
right now. Duh!
But in the same breath he added "it's like the stock market
,who knows?".

They did have a car I would take over all the rest though, a
2006 Ford GT
in Gulf livery.
So I took a few pics for you. I haven't tried attaching pics
yet so please
let me know PM if they don't show up and I'll find another
way to post.
Let you know what I find out about the Pantera later this
week.

Hey I looked at the EPA ratings.
I thought I had a good tune when I recorded 22mpg - although
that was at
70 - 75 mph.

I've not done A/C since my days in
   Automotive Technology school. But
as I recall, the "goal" was to have 45F
   degrees at the vents.
38F at the vents sounds pretty darn good
   to me. :)
Can you come and do mine?

      Jeff,
I hooked up the high pressure side gauge
   and get these numbers:
before starting car, 100 psi both sides
after system settles down, at 1500 rpm,
low side 7 psi, high side 225
psi. As the car warmed the engine
speed increased to maybe 1750 rpm
and the high side was creeping up to
240-250 but the low was staying at
      5-7.
Ambient temp was 77F, so should be about
40-45 low side, 170 high side.
According to the info sheet, this "Hi side
too high, low side too low"
      situation would imply "blockage of
   expansion valve or orifice tube."
Would that be from having the R12 valve in
   a system now using 134?
I used my laser thermometer on the vents
and got 20-40F, but I suspect
that kind of thermometer is not accurate
   for this application because
on my street car I got like 13F, which I
   think cannot be right.
Anyway, it seems to me if I add more 134 I
run the risk of blowing the
high side hose at 3000 rpm and 85F
   temp. Does that sound right?
I do have 15 12 oz cans of old school R12
I bought way back when, so I
could switch to R12, but I would have to
take the car to have the 134
recycled, replace the dryer, put the
system under vacuum, etc so would
      like not to.
      Thank you,
      Jim

   AC that has been retrofitted
      to 134a?
      Jim,
All cars use different pressures and
for examples this week we did a/c
work on a 124 Fiat, many
   Benz-Bmws-Toyotas, a 71 e-type, Ford +Chevy
trucks, a Cobra kit car and a Mangusta.
But basic pressures at 1,500 rpm with
cooling fans on and on high, with
both windows open, rear and front hatch
closed, high fan and not on
recirc should be about 35 + - low side and
   250 + - high. Seems like a
7:1 ratio works the best. Converted
   systems do need different numbers
but never too much of a change. So your
low range should vary from 20
to 38 psi and the high 210 to 260 psi as
   long as above written
parameters are meet. The proper pressures
   will equate to the coolest
temps. You have to note that and remember
you are just setting the vent
output for the coolest temp not some
   pre-considered ideal temp you hope
      for.
About 30 % of all of our a/c fixes are
fixing the stuck on heaters. We
are in hot Louisiana, make sure your
heater is truly shut off by doing
      a liquid test.
Do use the correct oil and add 2 oz if you
are not sure of how much is
in. You can always expel the working high
side into a cloth or jug for
2 seconds to get an idea if you are oily
   enough. A lot of spit
indicates fine but dry expelled gas needs
   oil.
       Keep cool,

The sight glass is always used as a
reference point. You must go by the
      dual gauges.
Never by the low side only.

A very original Maserati Khamsin Ebay listing sent out by
   Masertisource.
Very original, but definitely not flawless. Pretty
   car, except for the
butt-ugly US bumpers. The front looks like it's
   choking on a hockey puck,
the back is just a visual mess between the PANTERA tail
   lights, and the
rubber transom of a bumper. It is the perfect color
   though.

I went to go inspect the car today. It was next door in the
   detailing shop.
The sales guy, John Zuberek, could not gain access since
   they were closed.
He reminded me of Tom Cruise in Risky Business, dealing
   Lambos!
So he is going to email me when it's done and I can go back
   for a look next
   week.
He also said they have an interested buyer(don't they
   all?),which may
   explain the detailing.
They must have 20 Lamborghini's just that I could see and
   some other
   speciality cars too.
Millions of dollars worth of cars. I felt like I walked into
   a bank vault.
I felt a little out of my comfort zone but we talked and he
   filled me in on
the different Lambo models and car stuff in general. They
   sell between 15-30
cars a month and cater to Lambo buyers primarily. They claim
   to be one of
   the biggest Lambo dealers around.
He said the owner, Roy Cats, has a special place in his
   heart for Panteras
   though.
He indicated Roy had recently found another car he's
   purchasing soon. Stay
   tuned.
John also said they feel the market is surging for Panteras
   right now. Duh!
But in the same breath he added "it's like the stock market
   ,who knows?".
They did have a car I would take over all the rest though, a
   2006 Ford GT
   in Gulf livery.
So I took a few pics for you. I haven't tried attaching pics
   yet so please
let me know PM if they don't show up and I'll find another
   way to post.
Let you know what I find out about the Pantera later this

   Dear Asa,
              I do know that
Larry Stock's high speed aero mods seem to include
a belly pan when I reviewed the double secret pictures he
   kindly sent me.
   Perhaps Larry might comment.

               Warmest

Yes, and somebody found it and returned it. If I
   recall correctly, he lost
his deck lid due to a hinge pin that came out. After
   that, most of us
drilled our pins for clips or safety wire. Here is an
   example from mine
when I drilled for cotter pins:
   [32]http://teampanteraracing.com/index.php?option=com_g2bridge&view=gal
   lery&Item
   id=57&g2_itemId=5517

I went to go inspect the car today. It was
   next door in the detailing
      shop.
The sales guy, John Zuberek, could not
   gain access since they were
      closed.
He reminded me of Tom Cruise in Risky
   Business, dealing Lambos!
So he is going to email me when it's done
and I can go back for a look
      next
      week.
He also said they have an interested
   buyer(don't they all?),which may
      explain the detailing.
They must have 20 Lamborghini's just that
I could see and some other
      speciality cars too.
Millions of dollars worth of cars. I felt
like I walked into a bank
      vault.
I felt a little out of my comfort zone but
we talked and he filled me
      in on
the different Lambo models and car stuff
   in general.They sell between
      15-30
cars a month and cater to Lambo buyers
primarily. They claim to be one
      of
      the biggest Lambo dealers around.
He said the owner, Roy Cats, has a special
   place in his heart for
      Panteras
      though.
He indicated Roy had recently found
   another car he's purchasing soon.
      Stay
      tuned.
John also said they feel the market is
   surging for Panteras right now.
      Duh!
But in the same breath he added "it's like
   the stock market ,who
      knows?".
They did have a car I would take over all
the rest though, a 2006 Ford
      GT
      in Gulf livery.
So I took a few pics for you. I haven't
   tried attaching pics yet so
      please
let me know PM if they don't show up and
I'll find another way to post.
Let you know what I find out about the
   Pantera later this week.
