Sorry to dig up an old discussion.

I was researching something and had a reason to call AAR. I asked the lady on the line how much Mr. Gurney weighed during his professional career. She shouted into another room at Dan's son who quickly replied back.
I was guessing 185lbs and Michael Shortt guessed 210lbs.
We were both wrong!
165lbs during his professional career.
So, yes...we're all fat today. I'm going to cancel the Meat Lover's Pizza I just ordered!

Unless he was all skin and bones under that driver's suit, that's the avg weight for a  large frame ( his shoulder width ) male.Plus I'm pretty good at sizing people up since I've done casting for 30+ years.  He could have been 185 if no muscle mass, but given the rigors of driving back then,I'd say Dan was in great shape and muscle weighs more than fat without making you look heavy.  Arnold is not 6'2" tall, that's was always a lie., more like 5'11 1/2"Stallone is 5"9 1/2", look at them side by side.   Then look at them with joe pesci who is 5'3" tall.  and they all wear cowboy boots with lifts.Check out Gurney in a sea of normal sized people.

210lbs would make him 17 lbs off Arnold when he won his last Mr Olympia at almost 6'2".

Until we started getting really fat 20 yrs ago, only power/strength athletes were over 200 lbs.
