[DeTomaso] Email Forum Opportunity

I haven't had the pleasure of knowing you all for that long.  (only been a member for a year and half)  However, I have a great deal of respect for the knowledge, friendliness, and willingness to help I've seen here.  I've also seen this on the PI Forum as well.
I see this e-mail string and forums as tools to foster the enthusiast communities they exist for.   Over my 30 years in the engineering business I've seen my "toolbox" change many times.  I've always resisted the changes at first, preferring the old way to the new.  I can't believe I once thought CAD was slow and a waste of time when I could put pencil to paper on my drafting table and get exactly what I wanted!  Every time I was resistant to a new tool, I ultimately found the new tool was much better than what I did before!
Before owning a Pantera, I have been involved in the BMW community for years and the many forums they have.  I must say that I prefer the forum model. In every forum I've been a member of I've been able to:
-Find good information easily-Make friends with other members easily-Buy and sell stuff easily-Get e-mail notifications when someone responds to a post I've made-Post pictures and videos easily-Participate in organized group buys from vendors who sponsor the forums
In using this e-mail string I cannot find things as easily.  Say for example, I want to find out about the torque specification for the drain plug on the ZF.  It may have been discussed in a long string in November of 2009, but how in the world would I know to look there on the POCA e-mail archive?  All of the forums I've used have a search feature to find information going back to the beginning of time.
As for making the new forum a "members only" forum.  Please don't do this.  As an outsider without a membership, I may never have found the information and confidence to become an owner without the free access I had to the PI Forum and this e-mail string!  I do not mind at all that part of my membership dues would go to support a "free to all" forum.
Lastly, I would really hate to loose those long time members that love this e-mail string method of communicating.  I know that there are many people that are active here and on the PI Forum.  I don't know if they share my opinion that the Forums are easier to navigate, but I've shared my experience.
Don't know if this is helpful or not.
Respectfully,Dennis#7260
