Dear Forum,
A bit more news for those eager for the up to the
minute developments in maintaining a 351C original type fuel system.
One of the bigger and American Ebay vendors for the
Taiwan hipo 351C fuel pump is a real business in Kingsport, Tennessee:
White Racing Engines. They have a real phone number and real people
answer. I called today for due diligence and spoke with Al.
He tells me that indeed the Ebay hipo Cleveland fuel
pump used to be the Holley hipo fuel pump, which explains the similarity
of the two. He tells me that it is indeed made in China or Taiwan, but
he doesn't know which one. He tells me that he cannot say for sure that
it is the same company that made them for Holley or if the company
simply bought the Holley manufacturing stuff and began production. He
says that they first used them on their Chevy engines and they have been
good quality.
So.....it is probably worth a try if you need a
mechanical fuel pump with more capacity than the stock style Carter
pump. The price is $25 plus $8 shipping. I took the plunge and bought
one.
For what it is worth, Chuck Engles

Dear Forum,

<JAVASCRIPT-BLOCKEDparent.wgMail.openComposeWindow('detomaso at poca.com')>
<JAVASCRIPT-BLOCKEDparent.wgMail.openComposeWindow('detomaso at poca.com')>
Last year there were no 351C fuel pumps other
than
<JAVASCRIPT-BLOCKEDparent.wgMail.openComposeWindow('detomaso at poca.com')>
the bare bones humble Carter stock units. Holley had quit making their
hipo
<JAVASCRIPT-BLOCKEDparent.wgMail.openComposeWindow('detomaso at poca.com')>
unit. Summit, Jeg's and others did not sell them. I don't think that
I
<JAVASCRIPT-BLOCKEDparent.wgMail.openComposeWindow('detomaso at poca.com')>
could find one on a Google search. Jack DeRyke has written in the
<JAVASCRIPT-BLOCKEDparent.wgMail.openComposeWindow('detomaso at poca.com')>
newsletter that the list of Cleveland parts that are no longer available
<JAVASCRIPT-BLOCKEDparent.wgMail.openComposeWindow('detomaso at poca.com')>
included: mechanical fuel pumps.

<JAVASCRIPT-BLOCKEDparent.wgMail.openComposeWindow('detomaso at poca.com')>
<JAVASCRIPT-BLOCKEDparent.wgMail.openComposeWindow('detomaso at poca.com')>
Things seem to have changed. I am
currently
<JAVASCRIPT-BLOCKEDparent.wgMail.openComposeWindow('detomaso at poca.com')>
building another engine and I was looking for a mechanical unit that was
<JAVASCRIPT-BLOCKEDparent.wgMail.openComposeWindow('detomaso at poca.com')>
less than the full tilt $200 McPerformance pump that I bought for the
last
<JAVASCRIPT-BLOCKEDparent.wgMail.openComposeWindow('detomaso at poca.com')>
engine. This engine's power is notably less and unit more than stock
and
<JAVASCRIPT-BLOCKEDparent.wgMail.openComposeWindow('detomaso at poca.com')>
less than full tilt was ideal.
<JAVASCRIPT-BLOCKEDparent.wgMail.openComposeWindow('detomaso at poca.com')>
<JAVASCRIPT-BLOCKEDparent.wgMail.openComposeWindow('detomaso at poca.com')>
<JAVASCRIPT-BLOCKEDparent.wgMail.openComposeWindow('detomaso at poca.com')>
<JAVASCRIPT-BLOCKEDparent.wgMail.openComposeWindow('detomaso at poca.com')>
The usual searches showed nothing other than
the
<JAVASCRIPT-BLOCKEDparent.wgMail.openComposeWindow('detomaso at poca.com')>
Carter unit and a "Spectre" Chinese knock off.
<JAVASCRIPT-BLOCKEDparent.wgMail.openComposeWindow('detomaso at poca.com')>

<JAVASCRIPT-BLOCKEDparent.wgMail.openComposeWindow('detomaso at poca.com')>
<JAVASCRIPT-BLOCKEDparent.wgMail.openComposeWindow('detomaso at poca.com')>
Through the miracle of Google I found two
<JAVASCRIPT-BLOCKEDparent.wgMail.openComposeWindow('detomaso at poca.com')>
noteworthy items:
<JAVASCRIPT-BLOCKEDparent.wgMail.openComposeWindow('detomaso at poca.com')>
<JAVASCRIPT-BLOCKEDparent.wgMail.openComposeWindow('detomaso at poca.com')>
<JAVASCRIPT-BLOCKEDparent.wgMail.openComposeWindow('detomaso at poca.com')>

<JAVASCRIPT-BLOCKEDparent.wgMail.openComposeWindow('detomaso at poca.com')>
<JAVASCRIPT-BLOCKEDparent.wgMail.openComposeWindow('detomaso at poca.com')>
1) Jeg's now stocks a hipo fuel pump made, their tech line
believes
<JAVASCRIPT-BLOCKEDparent.wgMail.openComposeWindow('detomaso at poca.com')>
,in Taiwan or China. It bears a remarkable similarity to what I recall
of
<JAVASCRIPT-BLOCKEDparent.wgMail.openComposeWindow('detomaso at poca.com')>
the Holley hipo unit. Jeg's unit is about $46 and has a year's warranty
and
<JAVASCRIPT-BLOCKEDparent.wgMail.openComposeWindow('detomaso at poca.com')>
can be returned if they actually sell you a Windsor unit. Their website
<JAVASCRIPT-BLOCKEDparent.wgMail.openComposeWindow('detomaso at poca.com')>
does picture a *Windsor* pump and they said that the picture of the
Windsor
<JAVASCRIPT-BLOCKEDparent.wgMail.openComposeWindow('detomaso at poca.com')>
pump is only "representative". If you order and it ain't a Cleveland
then
<JAVASCRIPT-BLOCKEDparent.wgMail.openComposeWindow('detomaso at poca.com')>
you can return it at their cost and get a refund---they said.
<JAVASCRIPT-BLOCKEDparent.wgMail.openComposeWindow('detomaso at poca.com')>
<JAVASCRIPT-BLOCKEDparent.wgMail.openComposeWindow('detomaso at poca.com')>
Jegs part number 707-R2306
<JAVASCRIPT-BLOCKEDparent.wgMail.openComposeWindow('detomaso at poca.com')>
<JAVASCRIPT-BLOCKEDparent.wgMail.openComposeWindow('detomaso at poca.com')>
<JAVASCRIPT-BLOCKEDparent.wgMail.openComposeWindow('detomaso at poca.com')>
<JAVASCRIPT-BLOCKEDparent.wgMail.openComposeWindow('detomaso at poca.com')>
2) Ebay has about a dozen vendors of essentially the same pump
<JAVASCRIPT-BLOCKEDparent.wgMail.openComposeWindow('detomaso at poca.com')>
showing the same picture of either the Windsor or Cleveland pump. The
<JAVASCRIPT-BLOCKEDparent.wgMail.openComposeWindow('detomaso at poca.com')>
prices range from $31 to $55. Warranties are unknown.
