[DeTomaso] Steering rack spacers

All cars are different in regard to bump-steering, especially modified ones. If you cannot detect any bump-steer on your particular machine when driving, don't bother with any of the three different fixes (rack spacers are only one way). Obviously the bumpier the roads you travel, the more it may affect handling. I'd try borrowing a car for a short drive on real roads that HAS had bump-steer corrected and see if you like the feel of its steering. Attending a Fun Rally is the simplest way to do this.

Subject: [DeTomaso] Steering rack spacers

I understand early Pantera (including my '71) did not use spacers under
the
steering rack while later cars came with those as standard.
They were
added to reduce bump-steer, but is this because the cars ware
delivered with
pretty high suspension setup?

Once you lower the car (I got Koni adjustable
ride height, adjusted pretty
low) seems one would be better off without those
spacers as steering control
arms actually seem straighter/more parallel to
control arms?

Could someone confirm what is the opinion on using spacers or
not on lowered
cars?

Thanks, Robert
