I have a wideband O2 sensor installed on the right side tailpipe.
I’m using the Innovate LM-02 setup. It’s bolted to the roll cage brace and I can see it to my right.
http://www.innovatemotorsports.com/products/lm2.php
I had the idle jets nailed after two tries in the garage.
The first time at the track was out for a couple of laps and back in.
The main jets and the air correctors were the hard part.
Got it now. I’m between 12.5 and 13 AFR at full throttle down the straight.
As Mike Trusty said, they will burn your eyes at idle. I couldn’t get it to idle.
Neither could Mike. Well, it’ll idle at 600rpm or 2000rpm. I chose 2000.
The motor is a dog below 4,000rpm, but holy shit… above that, it screams.
I was hitting the rev limiter at 8000 in 4th on the TWS front straight. We dialed it up to 8200 and I didn’t hit the limiter anymore.
But then, Turn 1 bothers me. Tom has his rev limiter set to 8800rpm.

Tony,
It was not dyno'd, much to many's disgust and disappointment.
Honestly, I spent so damned much on the engine, I was loathe to spend
more knowing what I already knew from Tom.
I don't know if you've ever tried to put a dry sump motor on a dyno,
but it is a much bigger chore than one thinks, unless the shop is set
up for that already... The one we used is/was not.
So, I passed on the dyno.
My motor has just slightly more stroke and just slightly less bore than
Tom's engine, which dyno'd at just over 705HP.
He spent a lot of time and money tweaking intakes and stuff with his,
so I was pretty confident mine would do the same.
Or maybe better? :-)
Bore = 4.133" Stroke = 3.30"
They are both 354ci
The only differences between the two motors:
- The cam is identical except for a little more lobe separation for
the Webers.
- The well aged and tweaked Mike Trusty Webers, of course. Tom uses a
worked over Holley.
- Tom uses custom `zoomie' headers with Borla mufflers that look like
180's, but they are not. I use good old GTS headers that have been
whacked off and a 3" collector welded on, then 3" tailpipes with some
shortie Magnaflows.
I was hitting the rev limiter at 8000rpm in 4th at the end of the TWS
straight, so we moved it up to 8200.
Tom's got his set to 8800rpm. Neither of us use 5th gear.
Prior to running into the Javelin at the last CVAR event, I managed my
first 2 minute lap.
Getting there, slowly but surely.
Regards,
Kirby
