And if you want something from Ford, with a replaceable thermostat and
possibly better flow, you can get a similar setup from a Taurus.

>>
>>
>> A while back I commented that I used the Pantera Performance Center modified coolant restrictor with permits use of, at least, Windsor thermostats. I reported that I used the mod in all my engines and the two installed in my Panteras had provided good cooling function without overheating for years.
>>
>> After I made that public statement, a good friend with impeccable automotive Ford engineering credentials and curriculum vitae inquired about the modification and I described it. He chastised me for using a bad design and told me that I was cold shocking the cylinder heads with such a mod.
>>
>> As it so happens, one engine was out of the Pantera and disassembled for rebuilding. At his request I inspected the restrictor which is made of aluminum and photographed it. It was apparent that after ten years and roughly twenty thousand miles that the small hole in the bottom of the modified restrictor has completely corroded closed with firm schmutz. I was convinced that although the mod had worked, there was something flawed and I would revert back to original.
>>
>> Now, I am working on the other Pantera and I decided to change the thermostat. This engine has used the PPC mod since it was built in 2006 and about ten thousand miles ago. The thermostat was not a Cleveland. I think it is a Windsor. The restrictor was again corroded and the small aperture was occluded with schmutz. I changed back to the stock restrictor and thermostat.
>>
>> The third engine is on a stand and I will change that one back to a stock restrictor in due time.
>>
>> So, for the record, although I was satisfied with the performance of the PPC modified cooling restrictor, inspection and reconsideration shows it to be different and maybe not better than stock.
