[DeTomaso] Fwd: What Headers match new Edelbrock 2V Performer RPM Heads ... ?

Hi All,

I have not heard this one before, but some mechanics here in NZ are telling my friend that the exhaust ports on the Edelbrock 2V Performer RPM Aluminium heads (part # 61629) are raised from the stock head location? and that they are an inch higher than stock…? I find that very hard to believe.

I think my friend just needs some correct Pantera Headers? Basically, the headers he has are hitting the gas tank shield on the drivers side and the flange is hitting the suspension on the passenger side.

The headers he has are Pacemaker out of Australia, see his email below.

Your advise would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks, Ed

We can almost get the right side headers close, but the gap on the left side between the heads and the fuel tank is now way too small.

   Hi All,

   Hi Ed,
The great news is that the engine and gearbox went back into the
Pantera early last week ... the bad news is we've hit a major
problem. I think I might need some advice from the POCA community,
as I'm sure someone else must have struck this issue.
When the engine was rebuilt, we changed over to new Edelbrock 2V
Performer RPM Aluminium heads (part # 61629).
Seemingly all of the mechanics failed to realise that the exhaust ports
on these new heads are approximately 112 inches higher at the outlet
than the old headers. Accordingly when the guys tried to fit my
2-inch Pacemaker headers back into already tight spaces, there's no way
they were ever going to fit ! We can almost get the right side
headers close, but the gap on the left side between the heads and the
fuel tank is now way too small.
Given the general lack of knowledge about Panteras in New Zealand
(there's only a dozen in the country !) I'm desperately trying to find
a cost effective solution. The options appear to be as follows:
    1. Ask if anyone in the POCA community has these particular Edelbrock
2V Performer RPM heads installed - if so, what make/model
       headers are they running ?
    2. Have some new 2V flanges laser cut, and then butcher my existing
heads by trying to cut/reshape/weld them onto the new flanges
       (approx US$2,000)
    3. Find someone here to make a set of custom headers from scratch
       (approx US$5,500 and a 2 month wait !)

I can see that Pacemaker (an Australian manufacturer) produce units for
both 2V and 4V heads for a Ford 351C engine, but of course there's
absolutely no guarantee they'll fit a rear engined Pantera ...

I'm really, really nervous about ordering a new set of headers through
Ebay or offshore unless I can be certain that they'll bolt straight
   into place.
Any help would be very much appreciated Ed, as we're at a bit of an
impasse at present - work had ground to a halt until we can solve
this problem. Can you see if any of the POCA members have an easy
   solution for this problem ?
   Cheers,
   Dave
