[DeTomaso] Tires for 7" Campys

There apparently are no 255-50x 15s but there was at one time a 255-45 x 15 according to Roger Kraus. I was sized for 8-1/2 to 10" wide wheels. FWIW, a 245-50 x15 on an 8" Campy will rub in three or four places, all correctable with an hours worth of hammer work that is invisible from the outside. This has been found to be the lwidest front tire that mostly-fits without flares. That is, a 245-50 x 15, 16, 17 or 18" wheel; all have the same tread width +- 1/4". May I ask what you're trying to do here?
Cheers- J DeRyke

When I did my search at TireRack, the 255 50 did not show any tires
available.A Not saying that they do not exist, but TireRack did not
list
them on their site. Joseph is correct in the diameter though.A
They are just
right for the front in height.
The 265 50 from Hankook did not list the rim
size but they are surely
wider than the 255s.A I liked the tread profile on
the 235 55 Hoosier
Radial Wets but would think they might be a handful once
they wear down
a bit.

Just doing a little
math,
the thread width of 255 would be 255/25.4 = 10"A (25.4mm per
inch)
the diameter would be the thread width X aspect X 2 + rim = 10 X
0.50 X 2
+15 = 25"
Thus the 10" tread on a 7" rim would be too much,
but the 25" is
close to
the original 25.2"
my notes imply a
215 on the front might rub

David,
255/50?A I know of nobody making such tires and if they
did, they
would be
WAY too tall.
I'm assuming you made a typo and
meant 225/50?A Those would fit
perfectly.
Although they might be a bit
happier on 8-inch wheels in the front,
they
should work fine on 7-inch
wheels.
Cheers!
