[DeTomaso] Problems with engine shutting down

It could be a lot of different things but it sounds fuel related. The
stock motor should have a phenolic spacer to keep the carburetor from
becoming heat soaked but it could still be happening. Also, and I hate to
mention this, alcohol in the gasoline might be gumming up the works and
taking the carburetor apart and putting it back together may miraculously
help. Setting the float level may also help quite a bit. Since your car
starts right back up it may not be flooding so that's good.

And ummm... I had a car (A '75 Monza with a California 5.7L along with all
the emissions) that stalled almost every time I brake'd hard on the
auto-cross. I chased fuel system problems with no results for literally
years. It turned out there was only one ground strap for the motor and
that had been the cause. It still makes no sense, but you may need to be
quite thorough.
