[DeTomaso] New Detomasos to be built in China

Personally I would not consider purchasing a car made in China. I saw an
episode of "Top Gear" where the three Brits went to China and sampled a
number of Cars manufactured in China. Some of the older ones were a
complete joke. The newer ones were all Knock offs (in appearance) and while
the quality was light years ahead of the older cars but still seemed to
fall short of U.S. or European standards. I have had my share of Chinese
Pantera parts sold by one of our vendors that were total crap . One
example was a clutch master cylinder. It was represented as "made in Italy"
but it was a very poor copy that appeared to be made from a sand casting of
an original. The lettering was not crisp and clear (like an authentic one)
and it wouldn't work until I rebuilt it using some of the parts from the MC
I was replacing. So if that's any indication of the quality I don't think
you would even be able to get it up to US federal standards (DOT & EPA) so
if the new DeTomaso automobiles are made in China that may be the only
place you will see them.
Bob Levitt travels to China on business fairly often. If DeTomaso
production does ever come to fruition and they are manufactured in China
we will be able to get a first hand report on there quality from Bob.
This is only speculation and my personal opinion.

Not sure how many customers they can lure away from Corvette,

     be very,
very, very good to overcome that stigma and partially defeats the
