[DeTomaso] New Detomasos to be built in China

I've read a few articles that implied the same - apparently the only business plan that was presented that involved maintaining the workforce and production in Italy was that presented by the Swiss, and that didn't come through. This implies that the other plans included delocalization. 

IMO, delocalization to China would be a huge mistake. I can understand buying the DeTomaso name for a million dollars, euros, whatever. To a certain extent, it is somewhat philosophical whose capital is behind a well-known name. As Julian (I think) said, Jaguar is owned by Indians,  and while they may call the shots the cars are built in the same factories as before and are infused with English culture. Therefore they maintain much of the value of the name.

Designing and manufacturing a supercar in China will also infuse the car with Chinese culture. Not sure how many customers they can lure away from Corvette, Ferrari, Lamborghini, etc to buy an all-Chinese car instead. It will have to be very, very, very good to overcome that stigma and partially defeats the benefit gained from buying an Italian name.
