[DeTomaso] Oilite Bronze Bushings - Marlin Jack?

Curious, are the pilot needle bearings like u-Joint needles, ie: no spacing cage, fully populated around the circumference with needles, or more like a ball bearing with a metal or plastic cage spacing a lesser amount of needles?

My experience was similar to Julian's. I was a long time advocate of
using pilot bushings verses bearings . It was driven by a needle
bearing pilot failure in another vehicle. Why take the chance?

However, I began hear a scrub noise emanating from the ZF bellhousing
upon hard starts from a standstill. Switching to a needle bearing
remedied the problem.

I believe that line boring the block moves the crankshaft center-line
slightly off axis from the ZF input shaft. The pilot bearing is more
forgiving on the input shaft nose to the misalignment.

I would suggest one consider a bearing if their block has been line
bored and they do not have the gadgets to properly install offset dowels
to recenter the ZF bellhousing to the block.
