[DeTomaso] Fw: NPC! (was: Re: A Very Scary Obituary)

Ken,
I agree with you completely. Our freedom is a gift, defended by the men and women of our military branches. Many members of this list are current or recently retired military......to include our beloved Mike Drew and Asa Jay. Both are brilliant individuals who were presented a multitude of life options, but utilized the excellent training and educational opportunities of our great nation's military branches to prepare for their career path while defending our nation.
In addition, my son is currently attending the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs. He was recruited by a few Division 1 Universities for scholarships, but chose the Air Force Academy as he wants to be a commercial pilot after serving our nation, and liked the idea of serving our country while simultaneously obtaining his degree. So the premise that Doug S. puts forward that, "EVERYONE joins the military because it is their only option outside of unemployment, welfare, working at walmart or a fastfood joint." is pure and simple ignorance.
It is sad to hear that there are individuals in our country who do not provide the due respect to members of our armed services. Whatever the reason they decide to join, whether it be the lack of opportunities in their community, a wealth of educational options, etc., there is still the underlying pride in country aspect that should not be ignored.
Respectfully,
Perry Lindsey

  Boyd,
YOU ARE WRONG, people with Doug's mentality are the greatest threat
to our freedom.  When a majority of Americans no longer believe that
our freedom is a precious gift worth fighting for, to hand down to our
  children, it's over.
I apologize to everyone else on the list for posting this.

    Doug ,
I beg to differ. Immediately following 9/11 there was a surge of
enlistments in all branches of the military. The economy was strong
  and
I'm sure many of these people could have found other lines of work
  that
didn't put them in harms way.
As an aside 20 years is a microcosmA A in history. I was referring to
the bigger picture when people joined up to save the world and the US
from the greatest threat to our freedom we have known to date. Those
who forget history are doomed to relive it.
