Hey Jeff...
Great explanation in regards to the electronic transmission of ballots! I commend you for your communication to the membership. Full disclosure of these important issues should be the norm and should continue from here on out.
According to the POCA bylaws, since your board meetings should be open to the general membership (with exception of those meetings designated as "Executive Sessions"), can you advise the membership of the dates of your future meetings so we can sit in and be privy to the workings of our board? For that matter, can you forward a copy of the meeting minutes for the meetings held in the last year to the membership? I am assuming the board will be proud of its efforts and decisions and would gladly share that information to the masses.

Okay, here
is the what the statutes for non-profits like ours say in
California. Internet voting,
called "electronic transmission" of
ballots, is only allowed if it is
specifically allowed in the club's by
laws. Ours do not. Furthermore,
email voting is never allowabled
because it is not possible to
truly verify an email address. Think
hackers! This one is true in
almost every state, not just California.
So, that is why we are having an
election to modify the by-laws of the
club.A The new amendment sets the
stage so we can implement electronic
internet voting and other 21st
century improvements for the Club.A It
clarifies this and other
procedures surrounding amending the By-Laws
and provides a new procedure for
members to propose changes to the
By-Laws directly.A And it still
allows for paper ballots for people
that don't use the
internet.A All good and necessary stuff. And it
brings us more in line with what
most other large car clubs
do.A Although there might have
been some earlier confusion, a simple
majority of vostes cast will pass
the amendment.
The amendment
change and ballot will be in your March Newsletter.
