Hello Randy,
Thanks for your reply. So now the car was also pearl colored, first or second color?
The Ford factory photos show it as black below the seam line and orange above with very white rims and tinted widows.
Somewhat ugly but this was the years of bell bottoms, tie-dye, op-art and anti establishment. What year do you think of the photo?
I found out last month that the car may have been finish built in Germany, but it has a Ford park brake handle, rear glass
defog wires and four Italian tractor belts on it, which most likely says it was finish built in Italy or Detroit.
It is deTomaso plate dated June, 69 but all the glass are dated Dec, 69 except the windshield.
As I bought it and now.
Randy, would you still have any photos of those times that I may get/copy/buy so to establish a time line of the car.
Maybe this car is like the Vector show car that was painted a different color prior to each show so people would think
that Wiegert had made many cars instead of one that painted 10 ? diff times.
Any info we can deal with would be great.
Here is blurb from Tom Tjaarda about his years in Detroit that just came in, thought you all would enjoy.

Hello Jeff and Libby,
Wish that I could have been together with you in Grosse
Point. I know that it is a nice event.
My father used to live there during and after the war and spent my
summers there when I was a kid.
Did you get a chance to meet Patrick LeQuamont. I saw him in Zagrib a
couple of months ago during a design conference and he showed
us his presentation in connection with his award for "Eyes on Design"
When I was living with my mother in Birmingham, MI we became good
friends with Gene Bordinat, this was back in the 1950's. My
mother was in real estate and provided this service for Ford
executives. So I can claim that I was friends with the two
principal owners of your Mangusta plus Mike Drew who provided the
connection to the car show.
Small world.
Also nice to see that you are in good spirits but then that is
your nature in any case.
Thank you for all
your updates and best to you both.
Tom

Hello Marc, Jack-400gt and Lambo buddies,
I was going go send this mail to Marc when the Espada-Marc-Jack mail
came in so I thought I would send info of good things.
EyesOnDesign was a fine show and great therapy.
Marc's family and I had fine time together over dinner at his
gentleman's farm and man cave.
The Mangusta was a treat for so many to see.
The majority of people were total car designers, builders, group
leaders and retired big wigs.
There were no yahoo moments.
Shame that we could not have put an Espada, Miura and a 400 GT around
it.
The masses would have freaked out!
I will see you all in at Concorso with my Mangusta.
Regards,
Jeff Cobb

Jack,
Interesting story on the Espada. In relation to the significance of
the car, last Sunday our S3 Espada received a designers choice award in
its class at the Eyes on Design car show held every year at the Edsel
Ford estate.
I even bumped into Jeff Cobb with his Mangusta prototype (which also
won an award).
We ended up having dinner together that evening.
The class included cars like an Alfa Montreal, an F40, 365 GTC/4, 246
Dino, Maserati Merak, etc.

Hey Marc,
We all have challenges that test us, bloody rips us apart and
finally makes us better.
This last month and a half of chemo infusions and chemo pills have
been so massively brutal to me that we were so glad to finish the
car project and get our butts to Grosse Point Park, Michigan, an
elegant area of Detroit, last week for the 28 th showing
of EyesOnDesign event held this past Sunday.
I have been in a lot of physical and mental pain with
heavy forgetful foggy chemo-brain so this show that Libby and I went
to was able to pull me out of my damned pains.
Libby and I arrived to the 1920's Edsel and Eleanor Ford Manor on
Lake St Clair this past Sunday morning in this fine rare car and all
the daily pains (well almost) went away.
People went nuts, gaga, ballistic, cuckoo and exuberant over this
1969 3,556. mile car that used to be owned but the Ford President of
World Wide Auto Design from 1960 to 1984. There were about 270 cars at
this design show and most of the viewers were designers, builders,
engineers and factory owners. One class of judges were blind wearing
white Cotten gloves. They went car to car sensing and feeling the
shapes. I saw them smile when them smile when they felt a Dino!
I did not see them feel my car, if they did they may have said, "Excuse
me lady, I thought I was rubbing a cars rear end ".
I met the Ford factory Mangusta test drivers from the late 60s,
the president of Renault and 100's of designers and super interesting
car making people.
All the sweat and pain to get this eight year sit up car, since I was
invited back on April 21, was well worth it.
Now I can get my Espada, then the Ghibli SS, then Bora and then the 66
250 SL going. This was a fine start.
The retired VP of General Motors gave me the awards. The judging was
done by present and past automotive corporate executives, factory
owners, engineers and designers.
It won the Designers Choice award!!!!!
And
Best of all the Ford/Mercury/Lincoln cars created from 1961 to
1984!!!!!!!
I think it was repainted in 76, still pretty fantastic condition.
These photos are not doctored up.
I still have his 31 year old license plate.
This car is as it left the Italian factory or the German finishing shop
in April of 69 or 71, not known for sure
according to a letter from Mrs. deTomaso.
She is 46 + - years old this month!
<IMG_2265.jpeg>
A very impressive field of rare cars dating from 1903 to the present.

Libby had fun.
<IMG_2267.jpeg>
<IMG_2283.jpeg>
Now is that red or what?
<IMG_2268.jpeg>
<IMG_2277.jpeg>
The officials set it sideways because it was a center piece of the cars
that Mr. Bordinate designed. Which were in front and behind me, 33 in
all and my car was the bosses personal car.
<photo 1.jpeg>
People were drawn to this car like drunk kamikazes, it blew them away.
Most people knew this car existed, like ghost, but have never seen it

Then it sits for a few weeks before it is shipped off to Pebble Beach
to be in some shows on the Monterey Penisula for the second week of
August, then back home prior to me moving back to NC for my
reconstructive surgery starting Labor day weekend.
<photo 2.jpeg>
Talk about a physiological cure for cancer!!
All path and blood test done in NYC and BR show that my cancer is
gone.
But the chemo now must be done to remove what we cannot see.
My goal is outlive the cure.
I will!
<photo 3.jpeg>
<IMG_2291.jpeg>
My car is on the right in above and below photos and the left car
belongs to my friend, Dick Ruzzin, who helped design the Corvettes and
other Chevy cars and was a big wig designer with Chevy for 35 + years.
You are looking at two of the three deTomaso Mangustas prototypes in
the world of the 401 that were built, a never before event.
It is believed there are 240 left.
<photo 4.jpeg>
Well Marc, Jack and group,
I hope this story tells you that I am in damn good spirits, very beat
up, working hard and having unique fun with a positive outlook to
finishing my cure and going on with my long to be life.
See ya'll in Monterey,
