>>>More importantly, it's likely that your headlights are pointing at the
moon if the buckets are raising too high.

There are two limit switches which stop the up- and down-movement of the
system. It's a very simple system, with a threaded rubber-tipped plunger
secured with a locknut. They are mounted to square bosses welded to the gear
on the headlight bar. All you have to do is loosen the locknut and adjust
the 'up' plunger out a bit further, which will reduce the amount the buckets
travel before the plunger contacts the limit switch and stops movement.

As for the juddering--it's possible that the engagement between the gear on
the motor and the gear on the bar is a bit casual. The interface is
controlled by sliding the plate onto which the headlight motor is mounted; that
plate is held to the body with three bolts (10mm head), and is slotted to
allow some adjustement. Adjusting the motor by hand so that the tooth of the
gear on the motor is exactly centered in the valley between the two adjacent
teeth on the headlight bar gear, and then loosening the three mounting
bolts for the plate and jamming it hard up against the headlight bar gear, will
eliminate as much play as possible.

Good luck!

     This way
the headlight motor gear will not start choppy when lowering
     because it is
     trying to catch.
