Military aircraft aircraft like the McDonnell AV-8B were designed with
composite materials way back in the late 1970s (YAV-8B prototype flew in
1978 and the AV-8B first flew in 1981).  The forward fuselage, wing and
vertical tail of the AV-8B are all made of composite materials.  McDonnell
Aircraft has been part of Boeing since 1997.
