[DeTomaso] Vallelunga for auction

Bill -who knows what will happen to values in the future. I invested in
real estate, and the bubble burst and the market plummeted. My GT5-S has
gone up considerably in price, but I have no plans to sell. This obviously
means that you shouldn't listen to me when it comes to advice for investing!

The classic car market has been appreciating tremendously. I occasionally
check prices on 1 or 2 websites for cars such as the Maserati Ghibli, or the
Countach. Both have roughly doubled in price over the past 2 years, or at
least in asking price on Mobile.de and other car webpages. Who knows what
actual sales prices are.

The Mangusta has gone sky high compared to a few years ago, and all
Panteras, and especially the late model cars, have also gone up
considerably. Is this a bubble? Are the prices here to stay? Dunno. (you
don't want to buy an apartment on the Spanish Mediterranean by chance, do
you?) Personally I'd be a little nervous - the Vallelunga market has to be
quite small. If you find a motived buyer, you could probably turn a pretty
good profit, because there are simply so few out there and so few for sale.
But if you don't find a motivated buyer, you could get stuck with it for a
looong time, and it's a lot of cash to have tied up. Kirby struggled for a
long time before someone looking for a Longchamp came his way, if I remember
correctly. I remember that he lowered the price several times in an effort
to move the car, and in the end I think he paid someone to take it away?

I'd love to see someone buy it and restore it. But with such a low volume
and little demand, I'd be nervous about tying MY money up in that particular
model, unless I got a heck of a deal when purchasing.

My 2 cents...

So, if I purchased it, it would be strictly an investment (and hopefully a
short-term investment) - what are your thoughts about making money on this?
Please hold all your comments about "it's not about money - it's love of a
car"!! I love my used-to-be $30K Pantera, but that much money has got to be
returned pretty darn quick. And, to quell other negativity - I'm not a
buyer at this price, but I am seriously curious. ---BILL Lewis
