[DeTomaso] hood fitment between years?

The hood consists of two parts--the "spider"--which is the frame and the skin.
the skin is put on the spider and the outer edges are folded over and rolled on.
I guess depending on Luigis condition when he did that operation could make the hood a little different even so the 2 components where the same.
When I fixed my first car (think 4445) I had a donor car and because my passenger door had some rust and the donor cars was perfect I switched doors. The door was a very poor fit with 1/2 inch gap at some point. There was lots of lead where they had fitted the doors to the body.Same thing on the door--it consists of the inner structure and the skin..
I think even so the parts where stamped, welding the cars together left a lot of "wiggle room " and they made it fit with lots of lead.
just my 2 cents

I bought the hood new in the box from Wilkinson. Seems doubtful he would sell me a GT5 hood. Also I'd previously tried one of his "carbon fiber" hoods and it didn't fit. The problem with both of them was the same: the curvature was different than the fenders and peaked 1/4" above them about a foot from the nose. Seems very unlikely a carbon hood mold would have been made for the GT5. Also I thought I'd heard that stampings didn't come along until after Ford had bought De Tomaso.

I had bought a fiberglass hood to modify for large radiator duct and sold the original uncut early 72 metal hood to Richard because he couldn't find one that was a good fit to his 71. The early 72 hood fit really well. I'll call Richard and ask if he doesn't respond soon. I guess this could be a random car to car fit issue, but at the time, we believed it was a different between 71 and early 72, and later cars.
