[DeTomaso] Tightening a steering column collapsible slider

Hi all,
On the advice of Mike Drew, I took a loot at my slider assembly in the 
steering column and I think I might have just a small amount of slop in 
it when turning left and right.  I know about the recommendations to 
tack-weld it or put a bolt through it, but I seem to recall someone did 
something with some shims that tightened it all right up without losing 
the collapsible function.

Can anyone relate that story?
