The blades are curved. Most pumps I've seen the impeller doesn't go to the edges of the chamber, see link for back of Flowkooler pump http://www.ebay.com/itm/FlowKooler-Mechanical-Water-Pump-1648-Ford-351C-High-Volume-Aluminum/390972856408?_trksid=p2050601.c100085.m2372&_trkparms=aid%3D111001%26algo%3DREC.SEED%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D32144%26meid%3Dadc2dcfa2b4643d2b2ed96db5553b4c7%26pid%3D100085%26rk%3D4%26rkt%3D4%26sd%3D111524451845%26clkid%3D7609801859692349263&_qi=RTM2067270 . I've never built an engine that cost $8-$10K so I wouldn't know.

First problem I see is that the impeller does not go all the way to the edges of the chamber, a lot of room for flow-by (is that a word?). Second is a question: are the impeller blades straight, or curved to "scoop" the fluid? See attached video on the Edelbrock Victor WP. http://www.edelbrock.com/automotive/mc/water-pumps/?gclid=COG1oZ3x4MYCFQqDfgodecAG1w
Next question: is the face of the impeller flush with the mating surface of the pump? If not, more room for fluid to get by. If flush, the only gap will be that provided by the gasket.
Do you really want to risk your $8-10K engine by saving a $150 bucks on a water pump?
Just my .02. If I'm FOS, let me know . . . .

I ordered this water pump http://www.ebay.com/itm/331524128504 for my 351C. I received it today, it looks like a very nice pump with a CNC aluminum impeller, high flow and is polished for the incredible price of $84.50 plus $10.00 shipping.
