[DeTomaso] New Tires a Challenge - Part Deux

For those that liked the look of the Porsche 935s, Gp 5 BMW M1s or the
various Group C cars from the early 80s, you might consider 19" rear
   wheels.
The race tires had greater than 16" section width and were even run on
various race Panteras in Europe and the US through the mid 80s.
In recent years, I've seen increasing availability of both race and
street rubber for 19" wheels - albeit none as wide as the old Group C
   rubber!
For racing purposes, 16" wheels on the front give lots of good options
(as can be seen on various cars running historic racing today).
Although I'm not aware of much in the way of street tires that would
fit a 16" wheel on the Pantera. And granted, a mix of 19" rear / 16"
front may be a bit too much "rake" for some :-)
I'm also considering options for a new set of wheels from Kodiak (for a
street Pantera) so great to hear everyone's input on what tires are
available. Seems we now have lots of choices for the rear but finding a
matching front is a bit of a challenge.

00That's the way I went for the GP4 to accentuate the front to rear rake, but in
reality it doesn't increase your street tire choices, especially in the wider r
ears; 335/30-18 are available in....... Pirelli, Michelin PS2 or Toyo R888's. I'
m running the latter as it will be mostly a summer/track car. The 335/30-18 size
is a popular Continental series tire, so I pick up scrubbed in ex race tires fo
r $50 ea. + shipping, with lots of life left i them for my use.As discussed 315/
35-17 tire options are fairly readily available anyway, I suppose the 18" diamet
er might increase you matched set options a bit, I have't done that research.Jul
