It's all quiet on the mid-western front, after 3 days of non-stop
heavy rain.  I'm maybe a mile from the Missouri river but my place is
on the side of a hill on higher ground so the water mostly just rolled
on by.  The creek behind my house has been roaring like a white water
river.  I've got a tree down along with a bunch of branches but no
real damage.  The road I usually take to work is closed.  A couple of
days before the latest round of rain began, water had topped the road
but I was able to slowly drive through on my way home.  It's
completely submerged under several feet of water now.  West Alton is
only 5 miles away as the crow flies and has been evacuated due to
major flooding.  I often ride my bicycle around Portage Des Sioux
which is danger of having their levees breached which will completely
cut off the town.  Unlike the big flood we had back in 1993, this one
came up quickly so there was little time to sand bag vulnerable areas.

I heard from Mid-Engine Mike McDougal this evening.  He and Teresa are
staying dry, though the road to their place has been closed for two
days.  Glen Hartog also stopped by yesterday and he and his Pantera
are fine.  I still need to check on Dave McLain.  His shop is just off
Interstate I-44 which has been closed for several days.
