[DeTomaso] Turn Switch Stalk Side Trim Cover Mounting Screw Potential Problem

FWIW,

The stalk side trim cover is held in place by a screw which is screwed into
the turn switch main body. The turn switch main body is connected to the
chassis and thus to the battery minus terminal.

If the trim cover mounting screw is too long, it may contact a small
spring in the turn switch. This spring is in a circuit which is un fused 12
volts from the battery when the headlamps are turned on. If the stalk side trim
cover mounting screw contacts the small spring and the headlamps are turned
on, serious smoke and damage will occur.

I have not heard of this happening, but the potential is there. The trim
covers can be quite tedious to install. If a longer screw than stock is used
to facilitate stalk side trim cover installation, serious damage can occur.
Install the stalk side trim cover screw sufficiently to hold the trim
cover in place but be absolutely certain that the screw does not bottom out
against anything.

The passenger side trim cover screw installation does not have this
problem.

The main thing is to keep the main thing the main thing.
Do the best you can with what your have where you are.
Have fun today!
