Once the decision was made to sacrifice the hoses, the rest was easy. BTW, I
don't think it would have been possible to get the hose off and reuse it.
Even after having sliced it along the axis, I had to peel it rather
forcefully away from the pipe. 

 

And Mike Drew - regarding needing a helper to take the radiator out - you
need to get to a gym! ;-)
