| We are pleased to offer pre-L model 1972 De Tomaso Pantera s/n 03461, unquestionably among the most attractive of the exotic Italian automotive designs of the golden-era of pre-rubber-bumper, pre-smog supercars. Thanks to the sleek body lines penned by Tom Tjaarda and coachwork by Ghia, the chrome-bumper Pantera features a long, low hood line, a compact yet comfortable cabin and an abrupt cutoff Kamm tail rear-trademark styling of other 1970s mid-engined supercars such as the Lamborghini Miura and the Maserati Bora. Abundant power was supplied thanks to an ultra-dependable, mid-mounted, 4-bolt main 5.7-liter, 351 Ford Cleveland engine. While the original Pantera was easily capable of the supercar performance levels of the Miura and far quicker than the Maserati Bora, the Pantera was also known for its effortless torque at both low and high speeds and ultra-low cost maintenance. Thanks to a low center of gravity, excellent weight distribution, minimal weight on the front end, a bullet-proof 5-speed ZF transaxle, a powerful clutch and more-than adequate A/C, the Pantera is user-friendly, easy to drive, predictable, balanced and forgiving. The lightweight small block Ford 351 was mounted deep in the chassis, permitting the sweeping rear profile, while lots of rubber on the ground meant great handling. |
| 1972 De Tomaso Pantera s/n 03461 was last owned by Mark Savage, the manager at the Vic Hubbard speed shop, the last of the once-legendary California speed shops. Thanks to Mark Savage's connections in the world of performance and racing parts, s/n 03461 has been fitted with an Edelbrock Total Power Package featuring a pair of aluminum Edelbrock cylinder heads; a matched Edelbrock RPM intake manifold with a Holley 700 CFM Double Pump carburetor and a Crane split-duration cam (which Clevelands like), with 216 duration/.524 lift on the intake and 228 duration/.519 exhaust lift, all put to the ground through the Centerforce lightweight aluminum flywheel and 11″ Centerforce dual friction clutch. The half shafts are Spicer units made by Driveline Service in San Leandro CA. Cooling has been handled with a Fluidyne Lay Forward radiator and dual high CFM electric cooling fans. Also fitted with ANSA GTS headers mated with Mind Train mufflers giving all the right sounds. The transaxle was rebuilt and the ring gear bolts were safety wired. The steering rack was rebuilt, a long throw clutch slave cylinder was fitted and it has been fitted with a massive Interstate battery. Dyno testing produced 329 rear-wheel horsepower or approximately 410 hp at the crank, a 40-50% power increase over stock. Needless to say, Pantera s/n 03461 will absolutely leave a Miura or a Bora in the dust. Even better, Pantera s/n 03461 will idle all day long on a 95-degree day and the temperature runs at a perfect 195 degrees, we've timed it! Comes with a fat file with all the service paperwork for the last ten years. |
| Pantera s/n 03461 has been refinished in its original blue with the original black interior in good condition. The body and chassis are accident free, rust free and it's as clean underneath as topside. It is mounted on BF Goodrich Radial T/A tires (225/50 R 15 front - 295/50 R 15 rear) on the gorgeous 7x15 front and 8x15 inch cast magnesium Campagnolo wheels. Cosmetically, this is a very attractive example with an excellent body. The panels are straight and panel fit is excellent. The paint is very good and the bright trim is in very good condition, as are the lights and glass. The interior is in good original condition and is fitted with an upgraded LeCarra steering wheel. The upholstery is all very nice throughout, including the seats, door panels, center console, dashboard and firewall. The original carpets are excellent in a high quality wool. The switches, controls and gauges are also in very good condition. |
| All systems were serviced and sorted by Mike Drew, well-known Pantera Guru and for twenty years the editor of the Pantera Owners Club of America Quarterly Magazine. As per Mike "This car is absolutely, completely solid and devoid of rust, which is a very rare thing, and it certainly bears being highlighted as the single most important characteristic of this car. | The engine compartment is excellent. The transaxle, engine, inner fenders and suspension are very clean, making for a very high quality driver condition. Pantera s/n 03461 runs and drives extremely well with great power through the RPM range. The engine is well-tuned, and sounds as it should, with the quintessential American V8 rumble. The car is powerful and moves easily through modern traffic. The transaxle shifts superbly, with excellent synchromesh, even when cold. The brakes are effective, and the steering and suspension free from any play. There are zero overheating problems. Also comes with a set of PI Motorsports wheels 17″ x 8″ and 17″ x 10″ with excellent Yokohama 215 x 40 ZR 17 and 335 x 35 ZR 17 AV135 tires; the original side and top air shrouds for the radiator, affording the buyer the opportunity to relocate the radiator in the original stand-up configuration; the stock radiator fans and the original air cleaner. |

an Edelbrock Total Power Package featuring a pair of aluminum Edelbrock
cylinder heads; a matched Edelbrock RPM intake manifold with a Holley
700 CFM Double Pump carburetor and a Crane split-duration cam (which
Clevelands like), with 216 duration/.524 lift on the intake and 228
duration/.519 exhaust lift, all put to the ground through the
Centerforce lightweight aluminum flywheel and 11a^3 Centerforce dual
friction clutch. The half shafts are Spicer units made by Driveline
Service in San Leandro CA. Cooling has been handled with a Fluidyne Lay
Forward radiator and dual high CFM electric cooling fans. Also fitted
with ANSA GTS headers mated with Mind Train mufflers giving all the
right sounds. The transaxle was rebuilt and the ring gear bolts were
safety wired. The steering rack was rebuilt, a long throw clutch slave
cylinder was fitted and it has been fitted with a massive Interstate
battery. Dyno testing produced 329 rear-wheel horsepower or
approximately 410 hp at the crank, a 40-50% power increase over stock.
Needless to say, Pantera s/n 03461 will absolutely leave a Miura or a
Bora in the dust. Even better, Pantera s/n 03461 will idle all day long
on a 95-degree day and the temperature runs at a perfect 195 degrees,
we've timed it! Comes with a fat file with all the service paperwork
for the last ten years.
Pantera s/n 03461 has been refinished in its original blue with the
original black interior in good condition. The body and chassis are
accident free, rust free and it's as clean underneath as topside. It is
mounted on BF Goodrich Radial T/A tires (225/50 R 15 front - 295/50 R
15 rear) on the gorgeous 7x15 front and 8x15 inch cast magnesium
Campagnolo wheels. Cosmetically, this is a very attractive example with
an excellent body. The panels are straight and panel fit is excellent.
The paint is very good and the bright trim is in very good condition,
as are the lights and glass. The interior is in good original condition
and is fitted with an upgraded LeCarra steering wheel. The upholstery
is all very nice throughout, including the seats, door panels, center
console, dashboard and firewall. The original carpets are excellent in
a high quality wool. The switches, controls and gauges are also in very
good condition.
All systems were serviced and sorted by Mike Drew, well-known Pantera
Guru and for twenty years the editor of the Pantera Owners Club of
America Quarterly Magazine. As per Mike "This car is absolutely,
completely solid and devoid of rust, which is a very rare thing, and it
certainly bears being highlighted as the single most important
characteristic of this car. The car is so strong and robust, I would go
so far as to say that a prospective buyer could fly in from anywhere in
the USA, turn the key and drive it straight home without the slightest
bit of drama".
The engine compartment is excellent. The transaxle, engine, inner
fenders and suspension are very clean, making for a very high quality
driver condition. Pantera s/n 03461 runs and drives extremely well with
great power through the RPM range. The engine is well-tuned, and sounds
as it should, with the quintessential American V8 rumble. The car is
powerful and moves easily through modern traffic. The transaxle shifts
superbly, with excellent synchromesh, even when cold. The brakes are
effective, and the steering and suspension free from any play. There
are zero overheating problems. Also comes with a set of PI Motorsports
wheels 17a^3 x 8a^3 and 17a^3 x 10a^3 with excellent Yokohama 215 x 40
ZR 17 and 335 x 35 ZR 17 AV135 tires; the original side and top air
shrouds for the radiator, affording the buyer the opportunity to
relocate the radiator in the original stand-up configuration; the stock
radiator fans and the original air cleaner.
This is a great opportunity to acquire an absolutely rust free,
fully-sorted pre-inspected and serviced US-delivered Pantera in
excellent cosmetic condition. It is a structurally excellent example
that makes a strong cosmetic impression and delivers exceptional
performance, retaining the purity of the early 1970s cars. Pantera s/n
03461 gives Daytona performance at 1/10 the cost, with much lower
maintenance. Because it is a 1972 year model, it is smog-exempt in
California and most other states. Fly in for an inspection and test
drive. This is a stunning Pantera in a very elegant blue on black combo
that offers a massive amount of bang for the buck and will not
disappoint. Has 40,182 miles. Priced right at $79,500 or best offer,
this car is seriously for sale.
