[DeTomaso] Insurance Coverage Limits

I'm with the Barrett Jackson program (AIG underwritten) and saved 50% when I switched over from American Collectors, probably 5 years ago. The rates have not increased unlike when you switch regular insurer and they have 'a get you in the door' rate the first year, that disappears upon renewal.
BJ don't break out the cost per vehicle, but I'm paying a comparable 0.45 cents / $100 insured value if I look at my total annual premium of $1,400 for $305K insured value.

Wow,
I'd like to know more how one obtains a Hagerty $85k guaranteed value California policy for $320/year?
I've been w Hagerty for 15+ years, 45 years driving experiance, no claims, no tickets, just got my renewal notice for a $50k agreed value 100/300k California policy for $610. My car is a low mileage original, Calif. garage stored, & hasn't gone 1000 miles in the last 10 years.
When I hear others are getting more insurance for ~ half and we live <100 miles apart; I feel like I'm getting screwed & Hagerty just makes up premiums to whatever they think the "market will bear".
Now I think I need to go insurance shopping!

I agree. I am paying Haggerty $320. a year for $85k value. A good deal to protect the
value of the car. Besides, Ins Co's pay big $money$ to lobby state legislatures to require
liability insurance in almost every state. So, in California, you must carry some insurance
to register your vehicle. Even if you are a 1%'er. ;-)

All,
Another thought--one long-term risk of under-insuring your car is that the
threshold for it being considered a total loss is that much lower. For
instance, if you only have your Pantera insured for $25K, even a minor
fender-bender that is easily repaired could cause the insurance company to total the
car out. You always have the option of buying the wreck and then using
the money to fix it, but then the car is forever tainted with a salvage title.
Mike (calling today to raise his limits--it's been more than a year and
values have once again outdistanced my coverage....)
