[DeTomaso] Oil Spray from valve cover breathers

I recently started up a newly rebuilt engine, 480 hp on the dyno, so
reasonably strong. I went to NAPA and found a pcv for a 428 that
looked a lot like the one that came on 5332. I routed the pcv to a
port on the inlet manifold. I routed the other valve-cover breather to
a port I installed on the air-cleaner plenum. At first the engine
generated a bit of vapor, and the set-up seemed to cope, but my
impression was barely. Now, with 500 miles on her there is markedly
less vapor (blow-by) as the rings seat. And, no question, the pcv is
coping.
This is an engine with MSD fuel injection and the pcv does not seem to
be a problem for the FI at all. In fact, when I got the cam setting
right on the MSD I was very pleased with the way the system has
performed. Only thing it is still sorting out is if I drop the
throttle and drop out of gear - it can once in a while have a hard time
idling. But even this seems to be sorting itself as the system maps
itself.
I hope this helps.
I will also add - it is soooooo nice to twist the key and have the
engine just start instantly and idle well, even when cold.

I can remember in the mid 70s, people saying Clevelands pumped way too
much oil through the pushrods into the heads and the oil did not drain
fast enough. I don't know how real that was. I assume that was with
hydraulic lifters without oil flow restrictors?

I use these Petersen risers in which I installed baffles. I had
aluminum nuts welded to the covers for installing the risers. The
added heights gets them up above the oil pool. I've tested them by
placing a moisture separator in the line between the riser and the
carb. Very effective.

No PCV valve in this system. Even if I did put one on I would still be
sucking up a lot of oil without any baffles. It could, however, be
that the rings aren't seated yet since I only have about 150 miles on
it. I was hoping to find a way to baffle the breathers.

Do you have a PVC valve? I recall that PVC helps reduce or eliminate
pressure inside the engine, and if it's removed or blocked, you can get
oil spray from breathers.

Hi Guys, does anyone have any ideas how to stop my engine from
blowing
oil out of the breathers on the valve covers. The engine was just
rebuilt and now has aluminum valve covers without any baffles by the
openings for the breathers. I'm getting a spray of oil out of the
breathers and sometimes they actual come off when i push it hard.
These are the twist-on type of breathers,
